KAROOTS

Karoo People have the oldest DNA of all human beings. Their ancestors spoke San/Bushmen dialects such as Nama or !Xam. Karoots offers education, skills & employment opportunities to the most disadvantaged people of South Africa.

NKF assists with education and/or skills training:

  • Individually awarded scholarships

  • Individuals who have proven entrepreneurial skills

  • Skills training that will lead to conservation-related jobs

  • Initiatives which bring tourism-based income to the Karoo

  • Initiatives promoting the cultural identity and/or welfare of Karoo people

For a comprehensive study of the inhabitants of the Nama Karoo, read Prof Michael de Jongh's report here.
